CHAMPS
At Wisconsin Dells Middle School, we use positive, proactive strategies to prevent inappropriate behaviors and promote appropriate behaviors in school-wide settings such as hallways, bathrooms, bus pick-up locations, and the LMC. At the same time, our teachers and staff utilize CHAMPS, a proactive classroom management model developed by Randall Sprick, as a way to extend these principles into the classroom. These CHAMPS plans help our students learn expectations and experience success by explicitly defining the following:
- Conversation (What should my voice level be?)
- Help (How do I get help with this activity?)
- Activity (What activity am I engaged in?)
- Movement (Where should I be in the classroom?)
- Participation (How and when do I participate?)
- Success (What does success look like?)
By reitierating these same ideas in all of our classrooms, our students are able to understand expectations from one room to the next.
Blue Card System
Wisconsin Dells Middle School students have been introduced to many new systems, one being our “Blue Card” system. This system is part of our larger school-wide Safe and Civil Schools plan to promote positive behavior and to Connect, Inspire, Achieve, with Everyone, Every day.
Students can earn these cards for demonstrating different core values like:
- Wisdom,
- Determination,
- Mindfulness, or
- Safety.
Students are recognized by their teachers for our Blue Cards. Every week, winners are chosen and they receive a Wisconsin Dells t-shirt.
Character Education
At Wisconsin Dells Middle School, we have a monthly character trait that we celebrate in conjunction with our yearly theme. The theme for the 2024-2025 school year is "CLIMBING TO NEW HEIGHTS." Our monthly character traits are:
September: RESPECT
October: INTEGRITY
November: THANKFULNESS
December: COMPASSION
January: RESPONSIBILITY
February: TEAMWORK
March: GROWTH MINDSET
April: CITIZENSHIP
May: LEADERSHIP
How will you "CLIMB TO NEW HEIGHTS?"
